I’ve noticed that the BIP39 word list doesn’t include words that are too similar to each other. Is this intentional? How does this help prevent errors when writing down or entering a seed phrase?

Yes, that’s intentional! The BIP39 word list was carefully designed so that no two words are toosimilar, reducing the chances of typos. This ensures that even if you make a small mistake whilewriting down your seed phrase, you can still recover it more easily. If you ever need to verify orcheck words from your mnemonic phrase, you can use the BIP39 word list to ensure all wordsmatch the standard list.
